Welcome to Thrifty & Crafty, I am so glad you are here!!
First, I would like to thank you very much for stopping by and wanting to get to know me a little better.
My name is Mayra, I’ve been married for 7 years to my best friend from high school and we have 3 awesome kids ages 4, 8 and 15. I love all things crafts and savings and am always looking for the best deals from groceries to home decor and everything in between. I am a self taught DIYer and learned most of what I know from YouTube, Pinterest and trial and error, so if I can do these projects trust me you can too.
I started this blog because I wanted to help busy families rediscover their creativity and accomplish their goals by sharing frugal living tips, self-care ideas and easy fun DIY crafts.
I hope to inspire people in my same situations by sharing my financial freedom journey and how I also make the time to pursue my passion, DIY & crafts!
Why DIY? (Why Not DIY?)
My favorite thing about doing DIY projects and crafts is not only that they save money, but also because sometimes you just need to slow down and take a step back from your hectic life and just create something that makes you smile and happy.
Everyone has a creative imagination and this blog encourages everyone to CREATE no matter your skill set. Slowing down to create something with your friends or family can really help with stress and anxiety (I know it has in my case). So I hope you are inspired to try an easy project or recipe and just enjoy creating, you know because WHY NOT do something that makes you happy?!
My Life (In a nutshell)
I am a proud Mexican-American born and raised in Houston, Texas (#HoustonStrong) and have lived here my entire life. I met my best friend (now hubby) in jr year of high school and got married in 2011. With the support of my husband and family I was able to graduate from the University of Houston (Go Coogs!) in 2013.
We bought our first home in 2012 and 5 years later we still have a ton to do. I have always loved creating cute quick crafts but just started getting into DIYs after we bought our house. The journey to decorating a house can be a long one, but so worth it at the end!
Other things I love are:
eating good food (Mexican & Tex-Mex are my favorite 🌮🌯)
shopping (will usually involve coupons, sales or thrift stores 🛒🛍)
traveling (I want to see the world! 🌎)
reading (if you are not learning you are not growing 📚)
photos (I love capturing memories 😍📷)
owls (they are my spirit animal🦉😍)
spending quality time with my loved ones (EVERYONE deserves needs this 💑)
being a mother (my mini-mes and not so mini teen inspire me and give me purpose every day 👶👧👦)
