Paper Heart Waterfall Craft

Paper Heart Waterfall Craft

Week 3 of the #craftstashchallenge was cardstock and paper! I am happy that I was invited to participate in this challenge this month. It made the month fly by and it motivated me to be creative every week. This paper heart craft was so fun and easy, it was inspired after searching paper crafts on Pinterest.  Inspo credit link here 😍

I love Pinterest (maybe a little too much 😂), there are so many cool DIY and craft inspirations that you can remake and even get inspired to do something similar yet different. Make sure you follow me on Pinterest where I share pins on everything from DIY and crafts to food and budget living . Enough of the shamless plug, lets get into the tutorial.

Supplies

Cardstock of choice
Sewing machine (optional)
Hot glue
Large paper puncher with design of choice (I used a heart hole puncher I’ve had for years)
Small Square Dowel from Lowes ($1.65)
Command Picture Hanging Strips ($5.93)

Hole punch a bunch of heart shapes from cardstock or paper of your choice.

I had my mini help with this part, she enjoyed doing and I enjoyed not doing it, we make a great team 😂

Tip: For thinner cardstock fold paper hotdog way and punch two at a time to  finish faster.

After we had a good amount, it was time to start making the hanging heart threads. I sewed two pieces together with the print facing outwards.

Make sure you measure the area this art will go. This was going to go above my daughter’s bed and I know a full size bed is 54”. So the art had to be about at least 4’ long . I started by sewing 7-8 heart together while leaving about 3-4” in between each heart.

TIP: This is completely optional, I wanted to practice my sewing skills so I decided to sew the heart pieces together. You could also glue them together with the string in between. I still recommend thread since it will weigh down your hearts and help them stay in place.

After each thread of 7-8 hearts I laid them side by side together on a flat surface to get a good idea of how many threads I would need. I ended up needing 9 total threads.

I purchased this square wood dowel from Lowes for $1.65, so inexpensive and perfect for my project. Spray paint only 3 sides of the dowel piece and leave the side that will be mounted on the wall unpainted.

Using my hot glue gun I placed a small dot on the unpainted side of the wood dowel and pressed thread right on top. Waited for it to dry and repeated the steps with the remaining thread pieces.

TIP: Start by gluing the first threads at each ends. Place the third in the center of the wood dowel.  Continue to place the threads in the middle to ensure they are evenly spaced out.

Once you have all your thread pieces glued on. Get someone to hold it up so you can cut off any excess thread. Since I sewed mine together sometimes my thread would rip so I ended up having smaller sections of threaded hearts that I had to knot together and had a lot to trim.

Instead of screwing the wood dowel into our wall, we ended up using picture mounting command strips that we had leftover from another project. I love using the command stips and hooks. I def recommend these.

The size of these were a bit too big for my project, I cut a strip in half and that seemed to be the perfect size for the wood dowel.

That’s it! Mount your art wherever you would like and admire your creation.

TIP: Make sure your art is centered once these strips touch the wall they are NOT moving
