DIY Father's Day gift

Father’s Day, an awesome holiday to celebrate fatherhood and fathers everywhere raising amazing human beings. I find it is always a bit harder to shop for the dad’s in my life, you can only get them so many ties and BBQ sets. In this article I will share a fun and easy DIY Father’s Day Gift.

I love giving personalized gifts to family and friends. And they love receiving them just as much as I love making them. Check out some of my other DIY Gifts like this DIY Bestie Basket I made for my IG followers and bestie or this Mother’s Day gift I made for my mom last month. With that said let’s jump into one of the most easiest, memorable and economical gifts I have made to date. Hope you enjoy crafting beauties.

Supplies

wood stain of choice – I happened to have a small stain leftover I bought at Walmart in the color classic gray that I was able to use
lighter color of paint or paint pen – I also had some left over furniture chalk paint in a light grey that I was able to use
double sided tape or adhesive – I had a big roll of adhesive that I got a while back that was perfect for this project
Sullivans Tailor Scissors, 8-Inch, Gold
Photos/ Polaroids
Wood slatted panel with rope handle – I purchased mine at Hobby Lobby in the wood section for $7.99

Fortunately for me and being a crafter, I had 90% of the supplies and was able to save additional money there, however getting paint samples at your local hardware store should not run you more than $5 each so it the grand scheme of things it is still a very cost efficient gift.

The first step you are going to want to do is stain your wood slabs, with a dry rag dip a corner of the rag into the stain and simply wipe on the wood. Wait until completely dry before moving to the next step.

I placed the photos/ Polaroids on the wood panel to get an idea of where they will go and how long my quote had to be. Next I went over to Pinterest to find a quote that I think would fit best on the panel and found this awesome quote, 😄 shameless plug make sure you follow me on Pinterest where I share awesome DIY & Craft projects, recipes and other awesome inspiration.

I am in no way a calligraphy expert so if I can do this trust me you can too. I took some of my daughter’s construction paper and looked up some calligraphy alphabets on… yup you guessed it …Pinterest. I did a few practice round and just went for it. I used a thick brush for the large letter and a smaller thinner brush for the smaller letters.

TIP: If you are unsure about your handwriting, you could also outline with pencil first and then paint over.

Once the paint is completely dry. Adhere your photos or Polaroids using the double-sided tape on the wood panel.

Once your photos are adhered to it that’s it you are done! I love how this turned out and most importantly so did the hubs.

TIP: Another idea you can do is hand prints of the kids each with a corresponding pic .
