I am excited to share this really fun project with you guys.  I recently redecorated my guest bathroom and moved in some new and cute pieces I found at my favorite discount store, Marshalls

It is amazing how you can transform a room with just fresh paint and new decor pieces. Check out the before and after over on my Instagram.  And make sure to follow so you don’t miss a thing.

Instead of just throwing away your older home decor items. Consider giving  your outdated home decor a new makeover with fresh paint and appealing prints and embellishments.

With some creativity and imagination I did just that. I changed the new look and I am obsessed. It looks super cute and fun and looks great in my creative space. Stay tuned for the canvas makeover that is coming also.

OK…. so without further ado let’s  get into this easy old frame up-cycle tutorial!

Things you will need

Old Frame
Paint in your choice of color
Paint brushes
Chipboard decor
Gold metallic paint
Cardstock (2 -12″x12″ for the large rosettes,  2 – 8.5″x11″ for the medium and 1 – 12″x12″ for the small one)
Extra cardstock for the circle punches
Glue gun
Circle punch (1.5″  & 2.5″)

I got the chipboard decor, gold paint and cardstock at Hobby Lobby

Start by laying out some newspaper and paint your frame. I used some left over white house paint I had.

I painted the piece with two coats and still left some of the under color peeking out for some depth.

Move on to your chipboard decor and paint that as well. I painted mine using DecoArt metallic paint in 24K Gold.

Using your choice of pattern card stock, let’s move onto decorating the negative space on the frame.

Starting with the largest rosette, you will need 2 -12″x 12″ card stock papers.

Start by folding it long ways (hotdog style) and then short way (hamburger style). You will have 4 equal squares from each cardstock for a total of 8 pieces.

Fold in half 3 times.

Then unfold and use the lines as a guide to fold back and forth like an accordion. Until your little squares look like the picture below. Fold all 8 squares

Next it’s time to glue them together! Using your hot glue gun, glue each square together until you have a long accordion.

TIP: Make sure that you are gluing a bottom edge to a top edge of each accordion fold. Take a look at the picture below for an example.

Stand your rosette up and shape into a circle to glue the ends together. See pic below.

With your glue gun handy press the rosette flat and use your hot glue to glue the center. Hold until it’s dry.

Then using your circle punch, punch out 2 circles per rosette. Glue each circle punch on each side of the rosette.

Make sure that the pattern you want is on the right side.

For the medium-sized rosette use 2 – 8.5″x11″ paper or cardstock. Fold short ways (hamburger style) 2 times.

This will give you 4 rectangles.  Do the same with the other 8.5″x11″ to give you a total of 8 rectangles.

For the smaller rosettes using the 12″x12″ cardstock you will do the same as the large rosette folding first long ways and then short ways but then folding one more time in half.

You will have 8 equal rectangles. Fold them using the same accordion style 3 times and unfold. Use the guide lines to fold back and forth until you have them all folded like an accordion.

Glue together and add a circle punch to hold rosette together as done previously.

Once you have your rosettes completed place them on your frame in the design you want.

Hot glue in place and that’s it! Hang this new one of a kind piece in your home or on a shelf and admire from afar 😉.

I absolutely love the new look! This is going to look perfect in my office. Stay tuned for an upcoming before and after of my creative space.
