Welcome back crafting beauties! In this article I share how I transformed an old outdated glass vase into a modern DIY Marble Vase.

DIY Marble Vase

This is the perfect project for any old vases that you have collected over the years and have designs that no longer fit your aesthetic. It gives the vase a completely new look and honestly this was one of the most satisfying projects I have done! You only need a few supplies and the results are one of a kind.

Supplies

Big plastic container – big enough the item you are marbling
Nail polish variety colors
Toothpicks
Old flower vase
White Paint
Sharpie Oil-Based Paint Markers, Metallic Gold (optional)

The inspiration for this old vase marble makeover was a 12 pack of pink silk Calla Lily flowers sent to me from Silk Plants Direct. I was very impressed by the quality and feel of the Calla lilies.  I also loved how beautiful and real they looked. My favorite part, of course was the no need to water them or watch them wilt after a couple weeks.

If I had to change one thing, it would be the size of the stems. They were a little too big for any of the vases that I had. The lilies were 21″ so I had to bend the stems quite a bit to get them to fit into my 10″ vase. But overall I loved the flowers, and am happy with how my project turned out.

If you are in the market for some quality faux fresh flowers that will last longer and cost less than the price of a fresh flower bouquet arrangement, make sure to check out Silk Plants Direct! They have a wide variety of flower types and beautful colors to choose from! 🌻🌼🌸🌺🌹🌷

You are going to want to start by painting your surface white if it is not white already. I used some house white paint I had from a previous project. But I am sure you can probably use spray paint or white acrylic paint.

I would do about 2- 3 coats to ensure you have a nice solid white base to do your marbling.

Once your vase is completely dry, it’s time to set up your design. Fill your plastic container about ¾ full of room temp water.

Shake your nail polishes before pouring them into the water. Start by pouring a thin wavy line all around the water using different colors.

Thrifty Tip; I used old nail polishes that I had, some were years old. So, no need to buy new nail polishes! If you absolutely need to buy some I recommend the dollar store for a cheaper alternative.

Use the toothpicks to lightly drag the design to give it a marble effect. Once you are satisfied with your design, its time to dip your vase

Using both hands grab the object from both ends and lightlty submerge and roll at the same time. Hope that makes sense. Check out the video below for an example.

It was very easy and the results were stunning. As you can tell by my daughter’s face. 😅🤭

I dipped the item multiple times, to cover the whole vase. However if you can do it all in one roll this may be better so you get a seamless design.

Once you have covered your vase in the nail polish marble design, set aside until completely dry.

When your vase is completely dry to the touch, take a gold sharpie paint marker (this is optional) and paint thin marble like lines in any areas of the vase that you think need a little more texture and depth. I also outlined the top of the vase.

Add your real or silk flowers to the vase and that’s it! Enjoy your art creation! This was such a fun and easy project. I really hope you give it a try with some old glass vases  or even mason jars you have lying around. The opportunities with this project are endless. Let me know in the comments below some items you want to give a new marble makeover to, I would love to hear them.
